Buying Guide: How to Choose the Best Travel Router for Hotel WiFi Gaming
Keep these factors in mind when shopping for the best travel router for hotel wifi gaming.
Hotel login pages and consoles
Consoles often struggle with hotel captive login pages. A travel router logs in once, and your console, laptop and phone then join the router’s network without extra logins.
Why use a travel router?
A travel router connects to hotel or public Wi-Fi once, then creates your own private network for all your devices. It can handle hotel login pages, add VPN protection and offer a wired Ethernet port for lower latency.
Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7 and wired ports
Newer Wi-Fi standards help in busy hotels, but the hotel connection is still the limit. Plugging your laptop or console into the router’s Ethernet port gives the most stable ping.
Hub or dock?
A hub is small and bus-powered, good for travel. A dock has its own power supply, more ports and better multi-monitor support, which suits a permanent desk setup.
Travel router setup tips
Set it up fast:
- Connect to the hotel Wi-Fi from the router’s app or web page.
- Complete the hotel login page once on your phone or laptop.
- Plug your laptop or console into the Ethernet port.
- Turn on the VPN only if you need it.
