Buying Guide: How to Choose the Best 240Hz OLED Monitor
Keep these factors in mind when shopping for the best 240hz oled monitor.
OLED burn-in and care
Modern OLED monitors use pixel shifting, panel refresh cycles and heatsinks to reduce burn-in risk. Hide static taskbars, use a dark wallpaper and let the monitor run its care cycle when it asks.
How much refresh rate do you need?
144Hz is a big step up from 60Hz for any game. 165Hz to 180Hz is now the budget standard. 240Hz and above mainly helps competitive shooters, and only if your PC can push frame rates close to the refresh rate.
HDR on gaming monitors
Basic HDR10 or HDR400 support mostly adds a wider color mode. Real HDR impact needs high brightness and local dimming, or an OLED panel with true blacks.
1080p, 1440p or 4K?
1080p is cheapest and easiest to drive at high frame rates, and it looks sharpest on 24-inch screens. 1440p is the sweet spot for 27-inch gaming monitors. 4K looks best on 27 to 32 inches but needs a strong graphics card or a console to make use of it.
OLED care tips
Protect your OLED:
- Hide the taskbar or set it to auto-hide.
- Use a dark wallpaper and a screen saver.
- Let the monitor run its pixel refresh when it asks.
- Avoid leaving static HUDs on screen for hours.
