Buying Guide: How to Choose the Best 60 Percent Keyboard for FPS
Keep these factors in mind when shopping for the best 60 percent keyboard for fps.
Hall effect and rapid trigger
Hall effect (magnetic) switches measure how far each key is pressed. That lets you set the actuation point and use rapid trigger, which resets a key the moment you start lifting it, useful for counter-strafing in FPS games.
Why compact keyboards help aim
Smaller keyboards leave more room to swing your mouse, which matters at low sensitivity. Many FPS players use 60% or 65% boards and tilt them for comfort.
Polling rate
Polling rate is how often the keyboard reports to the PC. 1000Hz is standard; 4000Hz and 8000Hz cut delay further but use more CPU and battery.
Linear, tactile or clicky switches
Linear switches press smoothly and suit fast gaming. Tactile switches have a bump you can feel, which many typists like. Clicky switches add a loud click and are best when noise does not matter.
Rapid trigger setup tips
Tune it right:
- Start with a 1.0 to 1.5mm actuation point.
- Turn on rapid trigger for WASD keys first.
- Lower the reset distance slowly until you get misfires, then back off.
- Save separate profiles for gaming and typing.
